Self-Care for Busy Business Owners: How to Wind Down When Work Is Done

I get it.

It would be nice to take a break, but you have so much to do.

Whether you have orders to prepare for shipping or meal plans to write, your to-do list is always getting in the way of self-care.

I'm here to tell you that this doesn't have to be your life anymore. You can have it all — a successful business and time to engage in your favorite self-care activities.

I admit that I struggle with putting myself first. It takes practice to get in the habit of taking time out for yourself.

Remember, self-care doesn't have to be complicated. You don't have to go to the spa to relax.

There is plenty you can do in the comfort of your own home, which brings me to the first thing on my self-care list.

Get enough sleep.

If you're like me — and most business owners — You need to get more sleep. This is one of the most challenging things to turn into a routine, but the more you make sleep a priority, the more successful you'll be at it.

According to the National Sleep Foundation, healthy adults need between 7 and 9 hours of sleep per night. If you have trouble falling asleep, try putting your phone or laptop away an hour before going to bed.

Once you're lying comfortably in bed, try these breathing techniques from the Sleep Foundation.

Make an appointment with yourself.

Let's be real. For many business owners, if it's not on your calendar, it won't get done.

Does this sound like you? If so, take out your calendar and pencil in some time me time.

Take that time to do something you enjoy to help you relax and take your mind off work.

Create and stick to a self-care routine.

Once you find a self-care routine you enjoy, don't let it fall by the wayside when you get busy again. One of my self-care routines is simply getting up in the morning and using my favorite body care products.

Here are some of the products I'm using now. All the products featured below are from Shea Shea Bakery.

As soon as I received their products in the mail, I fell in love. Not only do they look and smell great, but you can also tell they are packaged with care.

Buttered Pound Cake Body Wash – This body wash combines sweet buttercream, sugar and vanilla to create a rich cake scent. The wonderful smell helps wake me up in the morning and get a jumpstart on my day.

Signature Collection Cake Batter Body Crème – When I opened this body crème, I was impressed by how much it smelled like cake batter. The application is creamy and smooth, which is great because I prefer lighter moisturizers.

Buttered Pound Cake Body Mist – I appreciate that this mist is alcohol-free. I spray it on my hair and skin.
